Serra da Estrela, located in the Centre region (Beiras Region), designates the mountain range with the highest altitudes of mainland Portugal. Its highest point, at an altitude of 1993 meters and called Torre, makes it the highest mountain in mainland Portugal. Serra da Estrela is a landscape area integrated in the Serra da Estrela Natural Park, the largest protected area on Portuguese soil. In addition to the snow and the extraordinary fauna and flora, the traveler is also attracted by the human, cultural, historical and gastronomic wealth of the region. The Serra is also rich from a hydrological point of view. Numerous water lines flow from this massif and three rivers are still born in the Serra da Estrela: the Mondego River; the Zêzere River and the Alva River.
