Vilamoura is Europe's largest private tourist development, a blend of luxury hotels, apartments and villas, supported by extensive commercial services and leisure facilities. Vilamoura Marina is one of the main centres of attraction in the Algarve, offering a wide range of tourist and leisure activities. With about 825 berths, this is the largest and most important marina in Portugal.
The Marina quay is an exciting locale of cafés, restaurants, waterside bars and a new deck zone. There are also newsagents, banks, international brands and general stores and a variety of traditional handicraft shops and boutiques.
Active visitors and residents have nearly every conceivable sport on their doorstep to choose from. The five 18-hole golf courses offer enough golf to test every aspects a player's game. There is a horse riding centre, a lawn bowling club, a tennis centre and sport centres offering squash, badminton, weight training and aerobics. Joggers have cross-country trails.
Vilamoura is also known for its beaches, three kilometres of golden sand and transparent waters. To the west of the Marina entrance, the much photographed Rocha Baixinha/Falésia Beach with the stunning beauty of its colourful sandstone cliffs stretches into the distance. To the east, Vilamoura Beach, in front of the main hotel group, the sands hum with activity.
